Mental Health Promotions - Tennant Creek

The Mental Health Promotion Officer (MHPO) position in Tennant Creek was created out of an identified need of local workers and community members to be better informed about mental health and suicide in order to be more prepared to support people with mental health related issues. The position is funded under & guided by the Life Promotion Program in Alice Springs.

What we do -

• facilitate local activities that raise community awareness about mental health and suicide during mental health week and other relevant key occasions - see also Past Events below & inBalance newsletter for latest updates
  
  
• coordinate the Barkly Reference Group - a network of workers in mental health and related services to ensure the sharing of information and resources related to the delivery of support
  
  
• coordinate and help deliver training in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and Mental Health First Aid, and related suicide awareness programs
  
  
• distribute information to the local community and services about mental health, such as Mind Yarn
  
  
• assist in a coordinated response of support for those impacted by suicide according to the appropriate interagency protocol
