Training & Promotions Program
Mental Health Week
Mental Health Week is an annual national awareness event held in early October every year. In the Northern Territory, Mental Health Week is coordinated by MHACA in Central Australia and the NT Mental Health Coalition in the Top End. A range of events are organised each year, with a highlight in more recent years being a mid-week gala dinner with outstanding guest speakers which have include John Brogden, Fiona O’Loughlin, Mike Munro & Jonathon Welch. Other activities have included a Family Fun Run, ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace’ competition, mental health workshops, consumer art exhibition, poetry competition, Tai Chi and visits to local schools. All these events aim to:
- increase knowledge & community education about mental illness
- foster a more supportive and informed attitude to those who live with mental illness
- bring attention to the challenges of living with a mental illness
- to encourage participation in healthy lifestyle strategies
