Prevention & Recovery Program

The Prevention and Recovery Program is an integrated model of shared subacute care between MHACA (non-goverment) and the Central Australia Mental Health Services (government).

The program provides “A Safe Way Forward” through:

  • Clinical and non-clinical care
  • Up to 8 weeks of supports
  • Care provided in the “least restrictive environment”

The Program provides:

  • Voluntary goal-oriented ‘Individual Care Packages’
  • Short-term intensive supports to reduce an admission and/or assist the transition back home after an admission
  • Continued case-management after discharge from the program
  • Allied supports and other MHACA programs for clients
    to access at the same time

How do we compliment CAMHS -
the Central Australian Mental Health Services?

  • By Offering: Independent Qualified Assessment of Needs
    i) Camberwell
    ii) Readiness for Rehab
    iii) Recovery Based Care
    iv) Individual Care Planning
    By Who: Social Workers, Support Workers, Counsellors,
    Allied Community supporters
    Why? To identify level of needs and increase potential towards
    independence and self-determination to a healthy recovery

What do we do?

  • Daily home/ward visits to assess needs and monitor recovery
    with client and family members
  • Daily or regular feedback to clinicians, nurses and case-managers
  • Psychosocial activities including exercise, cooking groups, genderbased-
    support-groups, outings, social integration, advocacy,
    one-on-one time out, independent listening and counselling
  • Escort as required to attend appointments, shopping and other
    options as identified
  • Assistance in identifying accommodation needs before entry
    onto program
