Life Promotion Program

The Life Promotion Program collaborates with others to develop strategies
to reduce suicide and suicidal behaviour in Central Australia.

We do this by:

• Applying the principles of the LIFE Framework - the National Suicide
  Prevention Strategy
  
• Working across the life span and in a range of settings
  
• Applying a community development approach
  
• Utilising existing resources and structures
  
• Interagency and cross discipline collaboration

Total Suicide Deaths: 65 (average of one suicide per month)

LPP Current Activities

• An Interagency Response occurs soon after a death by suicide
  and this helps to identify who has been affected by this death
  and what sort of support needs to be provided.
  
  
• Delivery of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
  
  
• Keeping updated on Current Suicide Prevention Research
  so that strategies are evidence based
  
  
• The LPP Steering Committee helps to guide the program
  and ensures others are kept informed of LPP activities
  
  
• The Santa Teresa (Ltyentye Arpurte) Life Promotion Program
  is about learning what this remote community can do to reduce
  suicidal behaviour
  
  
• Data collection on completed suicides and hospital-admitted
  suicide attempts
