Prevention & Recovery Program

The Prevention and Recovery Program is an integrated model of shared subacute care between MHACA (non-goverment) and the Central Australia Mental Health Services (government).

The program provides “A Safe Way Forward” through:

  • Clinical and non-clinical care
  • Up to 8 weeks of supports
  • Care provided in the “least restrictive environment”

The Program provides:

  • Voluntary goal-oriented ‘Individual Care Packages’
  • Short-term intensive supports to reduce an admission and/or assist the transition back home after an admission
  • Continued case-management after discharge from the program
  • Allied supports and other MHACA programs for clients
to access at the same time

     Step-up Support Care:

  • Assistance to monitor needs to reduce potential relapse and admission to the Mental Health Unit Ward
  • Daily visits and reviews in conjunction with family/ carer, clinician and case-manager as required
  • As it is intensive support it may only require up to 2-4 weeks too stabilise a potential crisis

    Step-down Support Care:

  • To assist the transition of clients off the Mental Health Unit back to their home
  • A 2-week period of leave off the Ward with progress reported to the Ward Round twice a week
  • Continued follow-up support is provided at home after discharge off the ward for up to six weeks
