SUMMARY:I-ASIST (Indigenous Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)- Alice Springs
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training I-ASIST provides a culturally relevant framework for participants to learn how to use a unique 6 task model to provide a suicide first aid intervention\, work with someone to develop a personalised safety plan to keep safe for now and connect with further help. This course has been developed by First Nations people with First Nations facilitators\, to provide culturally appropriate suicide prevention training. \nI-ASIST is for Indigenous workforces\, people who work with Indigenous communities\, as well as schools\, community groups\, and sports clubs. Virtually anyone age 16 or older\, regardless of prior experience or training\, can become an I-ASIST trained helper \nDuring the two-day interactive workshop\, participants learn through powerful audio-visual learning aids\, group yarns\, skills practice and development through trainer-facilitated workgroups. \nParticipants in I-ASIST: \n\n\nLearn the skills to provide a suicide first-aid intervention \n\n\nWork to develop a personalised safety plan for someone with thoughts of suicide to keep “safe-for-now” \n\n\nConnect the person with thoughts of suicide to further help \n\n\nAcquire skills in an evidence-based intervention model\, with the assistance of two LivingWorks registered I-ASIST trainers \n\n\nClick here for information on the evidence supporting I-ASIST\, or for a short introduction film click here \nAll accredited training is available free of charge to pension card holders and Higher Education and VET students.
